The Film
Nagavalli, a sequel to Chandramukhi, has all the naunces of a supernatural thriller and has more entertainment than horror with elements of surprise to keep the narration interesting.
The Synopsis
A happy family consisting of Shankar Rao (Sharat Babu) and his wife (Prabha), daughters Gayatri ((Kamalini Mukherjee), Gowri (Richa Gangopadhyay ) and Gita (Shraddha Das). Shankar Rao’s brother-in-law (Dharmavarapu Subramanyam) and his daughters Puja ((Poonam Kaur) and Hema (Sujatha) also live with them. Gayatri wins a painting of Nagavalli (Anushka) in a dance competition and soon the peace in the family is shattered. Gayatri loses her mental balance and also her boy friend.
Gauri’s engagement goeshaywire when the groom-to-be walks out. Then a large snake appears in the house from nowhere. There is fear and tension in the family. Ramachandra Siddhanthi (Avinash) arrives to solve the problem of unforeseen incidents. At his invitation psychiatrist Vijay (Venkatesh) makes an entry to solve the mystery. It is then revealed that the restless soul of Nagavalli is causing all the turmoil. Who is Nagavalli? Why is her soul so vengeful? Will vijay succeed in restoring peace in Shankar Rao’s home? Answers to these questions lead to the climax.
The Performances
Venkatesh gives a cool and convincing performance in all the three roles. Anushka gives a credible performance. Kamilini is good. Richa, Shraddha Das and Poonam Kaur are ok. Sarath Babu and Avinash do justice to their roles. Brahmanandam does his laugh-inciting routine. All others keep their roles alive.
The Techniques
The story is well written and the narration value is enhanced by good presentation. The screenplay keeps the story-telling interesting to watch. The dialogues are reasonable. Music is good. Cinematography adds pep and verve to the narration. Background music is apt.
The Verdict
Nagavalli is not exactly a horror-thriller but a good entertainer with good performance by Venkatesh. The film does not seem to have the essential elements of a runaway success.
