Jagapathi Babu, Vimala Raman starrer Chattam has reached the big screens today. Directed by Arun Prasad and produced by Natti Kumar and Rama Satyanarayana under Vishaka Talkies banner, Chattam is made focusing on the real life incidents of recent times. Let’s see how far the director succeeded in bringing them to big-screens, Here is the Chattam Movie review.

Story :

Gowri Shankar (Jagapathi Babu) is a corrupted Police inspector in Punjagutta Police Station. He along with his constable does settlements by bribing the criminals. One day a student called Swapna will be attacked by an eve teaser with acid. Though the criminal was caught red-handed, he gets out of the Jail with his father’s influence who is a business magnet. However, he gets killed by an unknown person later and the criminal’s father uses his power and demands CBI enquiry. Within few days, the same unknown person kills another criminal who kidnaps a girt and brutally kills her. CBI Officer (Ajay Sharma) finally identifies the unknown person through investigation, who is none other than Gowri Shankar. Shanakar heads to Mumbai and gets caught by Mumbai cops. Here comes a twist that Gowri Shankar deliberately does these activities to get arrested to meet Hasan Ali? Why does Gowri Shankar meets Hasan Ali? What was the story behind it… is to be watched on-screens.

Performances :

Jagapathi Babu as usual has done the role of a cop in his different style. His character is blended with the comedy and he did the role with ease. Cop characters are not new to him and Chattam too neither offered him unique nor challenging role.

Vimala Raman has nothing much to do in the film except a couple of scenes with Jagapathi Babu and a couple of songs, where she manages with the skin show.

Jeeva as a constable is adequate, Mukul Shamra as a CBI officer is perfect, Ashish Vidyarthi gives a decent performance as an inspector. Rest of the cast did their bit as required.

Technical Analysis :

Director Arun Prasad’s idea behind the storyline of Chattam is praiseworthy but the slow screenplay and the week editing spoils the show. Neither the dialogues nor the songs in the film are interesting. The background score by Srilekha is just okay in parts. The action scenes in the film are well shot and the cinematography is mediocre.

Analysis :

Chattam is inspired from the real-life incidents like Warangal acid case on girls, Vaishnavi’s murder case from Vijayawada and 26/11 Mumbai Terror attacks but the director totally failed in its execution. The main backdrop of the film was with its screenplay which is quite predictable from scene one. The pre-climax and the climax are the other let-downs as the director comes up with a solution to eradicate these loopholes which can never be implemented in this current world. Films based on real-incidents need fine script and well-execution and unfortunately Chattam fails in both.

Final Verdict :

Wait for the film to be screened on Televisions.
