Upendra Super Review

CHANTI REVIEW    3/5(JUST OK)

Super Movie Review – Upendra Super Review – Super Review: Actually this film has no title except a hand symbol indicating ‘super’. Upendra is back to direction after a hiatus
and he takes a simple issue and gives it his inimitable treatment. Upendra’s stamp is all over this film, be it costumes, setup, dialogues, characterizations and what not? Check out Super Movie Review…

Story:
When people in India feel responsible for the country then India will develop within no time and will become the world’s wealthiest country. In one line this is the story of Super. Subhash Chandra Gandhi (Upendra) is a patriotic businessman who lives in London. He marries a traditional Indian girl Indira (Nayanthara) but will later realize that she isn’t as traditional as he thinks. Actually, Indira deliberately marries Gandhi for a personal reason. What did Gandhi do to her? How Gandhi would bring the change that he wants to see in this country? These questions are answered in pure Uppi Dada style.

Analysis:
The opening of the film itself is wonderful. Don’t miss out Upendra’s entry as a rag picker! Title credits are designed in a funny way and it gives us a feeling that we are in for a different treat. How does India look in 2030? What if the rupee value zooms up? We would see foreigners working as slaves, cab drivers in India. Only illiterates speak English and educated knows all the Indian languages! Upenda’s wild imagination is all over the first fifteen to twenty minutes. One can’t stop grinning at all those scenes. Upendra weaves two stories into this script in his own style, a romantic thread and a patriotic angle. When a person like Upendra throws satires on the system they would definitely be hard hitting, punch-on-the-nose type.

Super has many such satires and scenes. Although the film appears completely illogical, one couldn’t help but admire Upendra for coming up with such an idea. There are many up and downs in the screenplay. The screenplay is dragged at times. Few satirical scenes misfired too. The flashback scenes involving Tulip Joshi are not up to the mark. Climax is absurd and out of place. Saying so, it is Upendra’s film and if you are used to it, Super satisfies the fan of Upendra in you.

Performances:
Upendra comes up with all those weird hairdos and costumes and he is at his weirdest best in this movie. There is a separate style of action which can be called ‘Uppi style’ and that will appeal to his cult fans. Nayanthara is good. She has a meaty role and delivers a neat performance. Tulip Joshi is limited. Ali is fine. Rest of the cast did their best to keep the flow going.

Tehnicalities:
Dialogues are superb. Punch lines uttered by Upendra on our lazy system and people are clap worthy. Music is in tune with the film. Camera work is fine but editing is shoddy at times. Visual effects are strictly Okay. Production values are neat.

Upendra satisfies his fans with his direction and script. However, other would find this movie irrelevant and impossible. Super defies logic and don’t go with your brains to watch this flick.

Plus Points:
Upendra
Dialogues
Few satirical scenes

Minus points:
Too much weirdness
Doesn’t have an universal appeal

Final Word:
Super may not appeal to all the audience. If you’ve liked Upendra’s A and Upendra films then it would impress you.
